Our verdict

Pick Freshsales if your reps spend their day on calls and email and you want everything in one clean screen. Pick Zoho CRM if you need a configurable platform that can grow with your process — or if the wider Zoho suite appeals.

Freshsales and Zoho CRM are the two best-value CRMs for small sales teams. Both have free plans for a handful of users and affordable paid tiers. Freshsales leans into a clean interface with built-in phone, email and chat. Zoho leans into breadth and configurability, plus a large suite of connected apps.

Choose Freshsales if…

  • You want calling and email built into the CRM without add-ons
  • A clean, modern interface matters for adoption
  • You already use Freshdesk or other Freshworks products
  • You want AI lead scoring without heavy configuration

Choose Zoho CRM if…

  • You need deeper customisation: custom modules, blueprints, scripting
  • You plan to use other Zoho apps such as Books, Desk or Campaigns
  • You want the lowest cost per seat at mid tiers
  • You have time to configure the system to your process

Communication built in

Freshsales includes a built-in phone dialer, email and chat in the CRM, which is unusual at its price. Zoho offers telephony through integrations and its own PhoneBridge, but the experience is less native.

Customisation depth

Zoho CRM is one of the most configurable CRMs at any price, with custom modules, Blueprint process enforcement and Deluge scripting. Freshsales covers custom fields, pipelines and workflows well, but it is less of a platform.

AI features

Both offer AI assistants — Freddy AI in Freshsales and Zia in Zoho — mostly on higher tiers. Freshsales' deal insights and lead scoring are easier to switch on; Zia offers more knobs.

Pricing tiers

Freshsales' Growth tier is very cheap (around $9 per user per month annually) but its Pro tier jumps to around $39. Zoho's tiers rise more gradually from around $14 to $40, so mid-tier features are often cheaper on Zoho.

Suite fit

Freshworks pairs naturally with Freshdesk for support; Zoho pairs with dozens of apps and the Zoho One bundle. Choose the suite you are most likely to grow into.

Switching between Freshsales and Zoho CRM

Migration difficulty: Moderate

Contacts, accounts and deals import cleanly via CSV in both directions. Phone call logs and custom automation take the most effort to recreate.

  1. Export contacts, accounts, deals, notes and tasks; keep call recordings separately if you need them.
  2. Recreate pipelines and custom fields before importing.
  3. Import a sample batch and verify owners, stages and amounts.
  4. Rebuild workflows and reconnect email, calendar and telephony.
  5. Train the team and set a cut-over date for the old system.
