Our approach to web hosting

Your website is often the first thing a customer sees, and the platform underneath it determines how fast it loads, how easy it is to update and how much it will cost as you grow. Hosting is also one of the categories where introductory pricing is most misleading: renewal rates can be several times higher than the first-term price.

We cover traditional and managed WordPress hosting, all-in-one website builders, ecommerce platforms and domain/DNS providers. Reviews look at performance characteristics, support quality, ease of migration away, and the true cost after the promotional period ends.

If you are unsure which type of platform you need, start with our guide to choosing web hosting before comparing individual providers.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use a website builder or WordPress hosting?

Website builders are faster to launch and include hosting, security and updates in one bill, but you are tied to the platform. WordPress gives you more flexibility and portability at the cost of more maintenance. If nobody on the team wants to manage plugins and updates, a builder is usually the better choice.

Why does hosting get so much more expensive at renewal?

Many hosts discount the first term heavily to win sign-ups. Always check the renewal price before committing to a multi-year plan, and compare providers on their regular rate.

Can I move my site to another host later?

Usually yes, though effort varies. WordPress sites are the most portable. Proprietary builders often let you export content but not the design, so moving away can mean rebuilding.
