Our verdict
Choose Pipedrive if your growth comes from salespeople working deals and you want the tool reps will actually keep updated. Choose HubSpot if marketing drives your pipeline or you want sales, marketing and service on one record — and start on the free plan to prove it before paying for Professional.
HubSpot and Pipedrive are the two CRMs small teams shortlist most often, but they solve different problems. Pipedrive is a pipeline tool built for salespeople: every screen pushes the next action on a deal. HubSpot is a customer platform that starts as a free CRM and expands into marketing, service and content. The right choice depends less on features than on whether sales is the whole story or one part of how you win customers.
Choose HubSpot CRM if…
- You want a genuinely useful free CRM to start, with unlimited users
- Marketing (forms, email, landing pages) feeds most of your pipeline
- You want sales, marketing and service on one contact record
- Non-sales staff also need to log activity and see customer history
Choose Pipedrive if…
- Your team is mostly salespeople who live in the pipeline all day
- You want predictable per-seat pricing without contact-based tiers
- Activity-based selling (calls, follow-ups, next steps) is how you work
- You prefer a focused tool and will add marketing separately

Starting point and free plan
HubSpot's free CRM covers contacts, deals, tasks, email tracking and a shared inbox with unlimited users, so a small team can run for months without paying. Pipedrive has no free plan — only a trial — but its entry tier (around $14 per user per month billed annually) is cheap and already pipeline-complete.
Pricing at scale
Pipedrive's cost scales almost linearly with seats, with add-ons (such as LeadBooster or campaigns) on top. HubSpot's Starter seats are inexpensive, but the jump to Professional (around $90 per seat) is steep, and marketing tools are priced partly by marketing contacts. Teams that need workflows and custom reporting usually spend more on HubSpot than on Pipedrive.
Daily usability for reps
Pipedrive's drag-and-drop pipeline, activity reminders and 'rotting' deal highlights are the clearest in the category, and reps tend to adopt it quickly. HubSpot is also easy to use, but it is a broader product, so there are more menus and objects to learn.
Marketing and service
HubSpot can grow into full marketing automation, help desk and CMS on the same database — the main reason companies choose it. Pipedrive's marketing features are lighter add-ons; most Pipedrive customers connect a separate email marketing tool.
Automation and reporting
Pipedrive includes workflow automations from its Advanced tier and solid sales reporting. HubSpot's free and Starter tiers offer limited automation; sequences and full workflows arrive at Professional, which is where the cost rises.

Switching between HubSpot CRM and Pipedrive
Migration difficulty: Moderate
Both tools import contacts, organisations and deals from CSV and have native importers for each other's data, so moving records is straightforward. Rebuilding automations, email templates and reports is where time goes.
- Export contacts, companies, deals and activities, and note custom fields on each object.
- Map pipeline stages one to one before importing so deal history lands in the right stage.
- Import into a test pipeline first and spot-check 20 records, including owners and dates.
- Rebuild automations and templates, then reconnect email, calendar and integrations.
- Run both systems read-only for a week, then switch off the old CRM on a fixed date.

Frequently asked questions
Is HubSpot or Pipedrive cheaper?
For a very small team, HubSpot's free CRM is cheaper because it costs nothing. Once you need automation and sequences, Pipedrive is usually cheaper, because HubSpot's Professional tier costs several times Pipedrive's mid tiers per seat.
Is Pipedrive easier to use than HubSpot?
For pure pipeline management, yes — Pipedrive is narrower and more focused. HubSpot is also easy to adopt, but it covers far more ground, so there is more to learn.
Can Pipedrive do marketing like HubSpot?
Only partly. Pipedrive offers email campaigns and lead capture as add-ons, but it is not a full marketing automation platform. Most Pipedrive users pair it with a dedicated email marketing tool.
Can I migrate from HubSpot to Pipedrive?
Yes. Pipedrive offers an importer for HubSpot data, and both support CSV. Plan extra time for automations, templates and reporting, which do not transfer.
Does HubSpot CRM or Pipedrive have a free plan?
HubSpot CRM has a free plan; Pipedrive has a free trial but no permanent free plan. Indicative starting prices: HubSpot CRM — Free; paid seats from around $15–20 / month; Pipedrive — From around $14–24 / user / month.
Which is cheaper for a team of 10, HubSpot CRM or Pipedrive?
On indicative list prices, the cheapest paid plan that fits 10 users costs about $150 per month on HubSpot CRM (Starter) and about $140 on Pipedrive (Essential), so Pipedrive is cheaper at that size. Taxes, add-ons and discounts are excluded — and the plan you actually need may be higher.
Which scores higher in our review, HubSpot CRM or Pipedrive?
HubSpot CRM scores 8.8/10 and Pipedrive 8.4/10 on our weighted rubric. HubSpot CRM leads on 5 of six criteria. A higher score does not make it right for every buyer — see the “choose if” lists above.
