Our verdict
If your company lives in Google Workspace and your plan already includes Gemini, start there — it is free at the margin and works where you already write. Add Claude for the people who do heavy writing, analysis or coding, where its quality and Projects justify a separate seat.
Claude and Gemini are both frontier AI assistants with free tiers and business plans, but they fit into a company differently. Claude, from Anthropic, is a standalone assistant known for careful writing, long-document analysis and coding help, with Team and Enterprise plans. Gemini, from Google, is woven into Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet and is included in many Google Workspace business plans — so for Google shops, the question is often whether a separate assistant is worth paying for.
Choose Claude if…
- Long-form writing, editing and nuanced analysis are your main use cases
- You regularly work with long contracts, reports or codebases
- You want a dedicated assistant with projects and shared knowledge
- Your team uses a mix of Microsoft, Google and other tools
Choose Google Gemini if…
- Your company runs on Google Workspace
- You want AI inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet without a new tool
- You already pay for a Workspace plan that includes Gemini
- Multimodal work with images, video and Google search grounding matters

Where it lives
Gemini appears inside Google's apps — drafting emails, summarising Docs, building Sheets formulas and taking Meet notes — and in a standalone app. Claude is used in its own web, desktop and mobile apps and connects to other tools through integrations and connectors.
Cost for a team
Gemini is included in many Google Workspace business plans (Business Standard is around $14 per user per month), so the marginal cost can be zero. Claude Team starts around $25–30 per user per month with a minimum seat count, on top of your existing suite.
Writing and reasoning
Claude is widely regarded as one of the strongest assistants for structured writing, editing tone and following detailed instructions. Gemini is strong too and benefits from Google search grounding for current information.
Long documents
Both offer very large context windows for analysing long files. Claude's Projects keep reference documents available across chats; Gemini can draw on files in Google Drive.
Data and admin controls
Both vendors state that business-plan data is not used to train their models by default, and both offer admin consoles, SSO and audit features on higher plans. Confirm the specific terms for the plan you buy.
